We saw an owl sitting on the ground close to our building this morning. A couple people walked by and he did not move except for his head, so we decided he must be hurt.
After calls to the Nature Center, the zoo and various other people, we found a state and federally permitted wildlife rehabilitator and raptor specialist to come get him. She drove from neighboring Sequatchie County.
She said he has been on the ground about five days, his wing is crushed beyond repair, maybe from being hit by a car or hitting a tree in recent storms, and he is blind in one eye. We got to pet him before she took him.
